A-Day Game 2010

The Chatham Family at the game.Joshua and Titus at the game.Joshua and Titus before the game.
We took Joshua to Tuscaloosa for his first game at Bryant Denny Stadium. It was Crimson vs. White (the annual spring scrimmage better known as the A-Day game) and he had a great time. We stayed for the first half of the game and then left to explore the campus. Joshua enjoyed playing with Daddy outside the stadium almost as much as he enjoyed hugging the trees on the quad - seriously, we don't know what was up with that! The weather was perfect and we picked our location in the stadium such that we were in the shade by the time the game began. We got to stay with the Smith family and visit more with Alice. Unfortunately Titus got sick at the game which cut short our trip for the Smiths', but luckily Titus bounced back and wasn't sick for long. Audrey and Wade truly are seasoned parents who took it all in stride and loaded the family up to leave the game as quickly as they did to arrive. We still had a great time and appreciated your hospitality. Roll Tide!Tackle Daddy!

It's...a...BOY!

Here's a profile of Baby Chatham
This picture really needs no explanation.

Matt, Joshua, and I are happy to announce that Baby Chatham is a boy! We are all excited and Joshua just won't stop rubbing it in that his prediction was correct. ;) Who knew a 20month old was so smart? Actually at first the ultrasound tech thought it was a girl just long enough for me to say "I knew it was a girl. Joshua kept saying it was a brother, but I knew better..." Then she was like "Wait, I may have called it too soon." Eventually we saw the evidence we have a proud baby boy! Then Matt told me I was officially outnumbered. Apparently it was nap time during the ultrasound because the baby kept yawning and had an arm across his face obscuring most of the shots. Still we got a glimpse of our handsome little man. Afterwords we picked up Joshua and had a celebratory dinner at McGuire's where Joshua ate so much his belly button was flat! Boys are such sweet blessings. We can't wait to meet our little guy. Even Joshua is looking forward to meeting him - sortof.

The day before, Joshua was pointing at objects and naming them so I took the opportunity to point at my belly and say "baby." Joshua looked at me funny, then leaned over, knocked three times on my belly and said "hello?" He quickly lost interest when there was no answer, but this mommy still thought it was awfully sweet! This is a really good look at baby's arm.
This picture requires the most imagination, though you can make out two eyes and an open mouth because he was yawning. (It looks more like an alien to me.)

Easter 2010

Yummmm, chocolate!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter! Ours started in Pensacola where Grandma and Grandpa came for s visit. Unfortunately Joshua was puny on Friday, but Grandma and Grandpa still enjoyed taking care of him. Then on Saturday we drove up to Birmingham to spend Easter with Daddy's family. Joshua started his morning hunting for eggs at Grandaddy's house. Then we went to church with the whole family at Dana's church. Joshua spent most of the service hanging out with Grandottie and Jerry Pop. Afterwards we had an Easter lunch and birthday party for Eli (Happy 8th Bday!) and Uncle Jason (we won't talk about how old you are). Eggs were hunted, games were played, presents were opened, an no naps were taken. I'm not sure how Joshua held out, but he was asleep before we left Dana's neighborhood on our way back to Pensacola.
Yea! I found 6 eggs! (Practice egg hunt with Grandpa.)Where are the eggs?
Gracie, will you help me?I found the biggest egg!

Introducing Alice!

Over the weekend, Audrey and Wade came for a visit with son Titus, and newest addition, Alice. Alice was a perfect baby who was so happy and quiet. Joshua and Titus got along great. It was so cool to see them interacting and playing. It makes me wish we lived closer because these boys look like good friends. We got to enjoy a little time at the beach on Sunday before they left. I was going to take the boys for a walk on the pier until I noticed (for the first time) that piers don't have side rails. And since I didn't want to find out if they are good swimmers, we avoided it all together. Audrey earned Experienced Mommy bonus points for not freaking out when all the kiddies had their picture made together on the bench. Thanks for the visit and we'll come see you soon.I like Titus' expression at Joshua holding Alice's hand.Break time! The Mommies

Easter Pictures

We took Joshua for his Easter pictures last week. I remember last year when we took him he liked the chicks, was okay with the lamb, and hated the bunnies. This year he loved the bunny, which he called a kitty cat (everytime you see him pointing in the pictures he was saying "kitty cat"). He was amused by the chicks, but only if he sat in mommy's lap. And he didn't care for the lamb, which he called dog-dog, and had to be bribed with gummy bears to sit next to him. You can tell in the pictures how he felt about it by the way he's leaning away from the lamb. Overall Joshua did great and few tears were shed. Daniel with Hartman Photography is always so patient with Joshua and manages to get great pictures, even when Joshua's being clingy. Check out the link that says "Easter 2010" on the right hand side of the page, or click on the title of this entry "Easter Pictures" and it will take you strait to the webpage. Happy Easter to all! Big Boy Haircut

Matt and I took Joshua to get his first big boy haircut over the weekend. My little man was sporting a mullet and that just wouldn't do! He was great at the barber shop. He never fussed or shook his head. Everyone commented on how quiet and good he was. The haircut itself was over super fast as the lady didn't want to give him time to get upset. I was a little sad to see my baby look like a little boy, but it suits him. And it is just in time for Easter!

Big Announcement

Joshua has some big news to share. He's going to be a Big Brother! Matt and I are very excited to be adding to our family in August. I know Joshua doesn't know what's coming, but we've talked with him a little bit and here's what he has to say about it:

Mommy: Joshua, do you want a brother or a sister?
Joshua: brother
Mommy: Do you want a sister or a brother
Joshua: brother
Mommy: Joshua, can you say sister?
Joshua: I want brother

I don't really think he knows what either word means and brother is easier to say than sister because of the s's, but I thought it was funny. So far he consistently says he wants a brother. Either way we are all very happy.

18 months old

I love eating cheese...
And saying "cheese" whenever I see a camera!

Joshua is 18 months old!! It is hard to believe my baby is 1 ½ years old. I’m behind on my blogging so I’ll catch you up on his stats and what he is up to.
Weight: 23lbs 9oz (10-25%)
Height: 32 ¼” (50%)
His ears were good (yea!). He's at or above all of his milestones (talking, pointing, interacting). He was really good for the doctor by not fussing while getting looked over. He even showed off for the doctor by leaving my arms to let him hold him (which he said was atypical). However, when the doctor offered him a sticker, he wouldn't take it from him, but when I got the sticker he immediately took it from me. He got one shot and was really upset about it. He usually gets over it immediately, but he was pouty and wouldn't wave bye bye to the nurse or take the sucker from her (although he took it from me and thoroughly enjoyed wearing it home.)
What's in the fridge?
Funny Joshua Story #1:
I was shopping at the grocery store with Joshua the other day and out of the blue he leaned down and lightly bit my hand which was pushing the cart. I said "Don't bite Mama." Then his face lit up and he said "Bite Mama" and he leaned down and bit my hand again. So I said "No, don’t bite Mama" to which he again said "Bite Mama" and leaned down and bit me with a smile. Clearly the message wasn't coming across or this was just too fun of a game. Either way he was really being too cute to get angry.

Funny Joshua Story #2:
Joshua will do just about anything for a skittle. I was trying to get Joshua to help me clean up the play area, but he was getting distracted so I offered him a skittle and he brought me everything and once they were put up he started looking for his skittle. I was amazed at how far a little bribing can go. Next I asked him to name his body parts for a skittle and he got them all (except elbows, but that’s only recently been added to the list). Then I got him to identify colors and he got them all right. Mommy was very proud of her smart little boy!
Dancing with Daddy
Joshua’s favorite word: Bapples (for apples) – he loves finding them in books, the grocery store, etc.
Joshua’s favorite song: He still really loves “Itsy Bitsy Spider” but another favorite is “My Bonnie lies over the ocean.” He especially likes to say “Be back” for “bring back.”
Joshua's favorite book: Anything that identifies body parts. Right now he really likes "God Loves you Nose to Toes."

He is a happy little boy that brings so much joy to his mommy and daddy. We would probably be more rested if he consistantly slept through the night, but we're working on that. Happy half birthday Joshua!Reading with Mommy

Snow in Florida!

We got some snow over the weekend which was exciting. So what did we do? We went for a drive to Birmingham. Actually we went there for Grandottie’s birthday (Matt’s mom). We had a really nice time visiting with family and Grandottie had a good time spending time with her children and grandchildren. We also got to watch some of the Winter Olympics. Back to the snow – Joshua was asleep when the snow was actually falling in Florida. He didn’t see any snow until he woke up in Alabama. We stopped at a rest area in Greenville so he could play in it. Joshua was not amused. He didn’t want to play in it. He wouldn’t taste any. And he was upset at the snowballs Mommy threw at him. It has been years since I’ve seen any snow so it was oddly entertaining to just look at it and watch people build tiny snowmen. At my parents’ house, Joshua got to ride in a sled, although he mostly enjoyed pulling the sled behind him. Happy Valentine’s Day to all and Happy Birthday Grandottie!Mommy hit me with a snowball!
